Spring is in full swing!
From our Spring Newsletter:
Spring is my absolute favorite time of year. The trees are in glorious bloom, and the daffodils and tulips are the first bulbs to proudly show their colors after sleeping all winter. The seasonal creek is gently flowing with fresh, clear water, and the tadpoles are starting to emerge. Each year, a pair of mallard ducks settles into the creek for a week or two as a resting spot on their way to who knows where. Their arrival is my official notice that a change of season is here.
The hens at the farm are in full laying mode, and daily gatherings are plentiful. The air is still crisp during morning chores, but the evening chores are done in t-shirt and shorts kind of weather. All the flocks are enjoying the lush green pastures and orchard, filled with grasses, clovers, plantain, amaranth, wild lettuce, pineapple weed, chamomile, radishes, mustard, and so much more. Not only are all these greens an essential part of their diets, but bugs galore are milling in and out of these greens, which keep the chooks healthy and doing what nature intended - foraging.
While most eager folks have purchased their eggs to incubate in February and March, we are still getting many orders for second tries and for those who just can’t get enough (chicken math)!
For our table egg customers, we are expanding our offerings beyond subscriptions. For a dozen multi-colored eggs from free-range, happy chickens, TBH Farm’s price is $8. The farm stand will be open Sundays between 10am-7pm on a first-come, first-served basis. We typically have at least 10 dozen non-subscription eggs available during this time. We can’t guarantee eggs will be there throughout the day, so arrive early! If any eggs are left over after Sunday, we will re-open the stand on Monday at 8:30am.
We hope everyone is enjoying the springtime as much as we are!
Cheers!
