In the Midst of Fall at TBH Farm
From our Fall 2025 Newsletter
It always seems to happen this way. After months of summer heat and dry air, we start longing for the crisp, colorful days of autumn. And when fall finally arrives, we’re somehow still surprised by its sudden presence—the golden leaves, the cool breeze, and the subtle shift in rhythm across the farm.
The Changing Season and Our Chickens
One of the first signs of fall at TBH Farm is the great chicken molt. Feathers everywhere! It looks as if a hundred down pillows have exploded across the barnyard. While it might seem like a scene of coyote mischief, it’s actually just our hens shedding their old plumage. This natural process allows them to grow a fresh, fluffy layer of feathers to stay warm through the colder months.
During this time, egg production naturally slows down. The hens focus their energy on rest and renewal instead of laying. This quiet period lasts until the first blossoms appear on our fruit trees in spring. It’s nature’s gentle reminder that rest is just as important as productivity—both for animals and humans.
Why We Don’t Use Artificial Lights
We often get questions from our farm-fresh egg customers about why egg availability drops in winter. At TBH Farm, we don’t use artificial lighting to force continuous laying. Instead, we let our hens follow their natural cycles. Sustainable and ethical chicken care means trusting that nature knows best. When spring returns, our happy hens reward us with a bounty of fresh, delicious eggs—worth every bit of the wait.
Fertile Egg Pre-Orders for Spring 2026
For our fertile egg customers and future chicken owners, pre-orders are now open for the 2026 season! If you’re planning to hatch your own chicks this spring, email us to reserve your fertile eggs early and get ahead of the chick frenzy when the season begins.
Reflection and Renewal at TBH Farm
Just like our hens, we use this slower season to reflect and reset. Fall on the farm is a time to evaluate what worked well, what we can improve, and how we can keep growing in both operations and sustainability. It’s also a time to enjoy the quieter moments—the smell of hay, the sound of wind in the trees, and the simple joy of preparing for the next season.
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the beauty of this season. Take inspiration from nature, slow down, and embrace the art of coziness this winter.
Warm wishes from all of us at TBH Farm—where nature leads, we follow.
